SaitoWorks Wooden Chairo Tsurikawa つり革 Train Subway Handle
£27.00
Tsurikawa (つり革) are commonplace in Japan, found hanging inside train carriages for passengers to steady themselves with whilst the train is moving. So why are they so deeply-rooted with the JDM car scene? Back in the day, Bosozoku gangsters would steal these subway handles and attach them to heavily modified cars in order to show rebellion and disrespect to authority.
Nowadays, car enthusiasts are still flaunting them to express their freedom. Uphold this Japanese tradition with our custom hand-made wooden Tsurikawa drift charm handles.
A unique accessory for any car enthusiast, hang it with pride from anywhere inside your car (or anywhere else for that matter). Ready to hang, and supplied in our signature SaitoWorks packaging.
- Hand made in the UK

- Real Horween Brown Leather strap
- Precision engraved cherry blossom design

You will need to unscrew the brass rivet to install, this can be done by hand or with a flat head screwdriver.
As this Tsurikawa is made from real leather and beechwood, not plastic, it is for decorative/show use only – not suitable as a functional safety handle or hanging from the rear of a car whilst driving.
Out of stock
Tsurikawa come in a vast array of shapes and sizes, however it is the classic round handle that has best stood the test of time and is the common most shape found on trains in Japan, the ergonomics allow for comfortable holding whilst allowing commuters to slip their wrist inside to loosely steady themselves.
So why are they so deeply rooted with the JDM car scene?
Back in the day, Bōsōzoku gangsters would steal these grab handles and hang them off the rear bumpers of heavily modified cars, often dragging them across the ground until they disintegrated. This was of course illegal and flaunting one in public was a subtle way of giving the middle finger to society, a show of rebellion and disrespect to authority.
Nowadays, car enthusiasts all over the world are still flaunting them as an expression of freedom and to uphold this Japanese tradition, albeit obtaining the Tsurikawa in a more lawful manner!
